The world today is filled with so much things that are calling for our attention, that is, from our own home family settings, school, work, friends, neighbours, music, videos, our phones.

We are finding it difficult to keep ourselves pure in thoughts and actions because from an early age we have developed a default Setting in our mind and actions. A question I know you are asking now is, well because it seems that we have this default settings, how were they formed and how do we get rid of them?

Some of the things we may have heard from a very young age, especially when we were months old, might have been:

  • No’s
  • You are foolish
  • You are like your dad, mom, uncle, auntie etc
  • Not being affirmed more
  • Not being hugged more
  • Being reminded of luck every time which creates a poverty mindset
  • Not being taught the value of valuing someone or something.
  • Not being taught how to accept your body as it and be content with every part of your body.
  • Seeing abuse from either of your parents.
  • Being bullied either home of school

And so on. The list is extensive. And it may seem as though that there is no hope of overcoming such default settings well there is hope in God.

Today I was thinking of how God created the world in the story of creation. God spoke words of what He wanted to see and it became what He spoke. Think about that for a moment!

God’s word were not limited to how the situation seemed either in the natural or supernatural. In order to overcome someone or something you need strength either emotionally or physically right.

Let’s think together. God spoke and it became! Whatever God spoke it became, yes the Bible doesn’t describe the thoughts and details of what God spoke, but isn’t it wonderful that things formed themselves in ways that go beyond our imagination. That is, God said, let there be birds of every kind. And so many birds species were created. Some I assume that you have never even seen up to today, right?

So going back to our discussion, how can a young man stay pure? It’s through God and His Word, yes there is so much calling for our attention today, and yes there is things we have held on from an early age; myths, ideoms, assumptions which have developed default settings in us, which we run to when we don’t know what to do, when we are scared, or want to avoid something. God’s word is the only thing that has the power to completely and fully transform us from the inside out.

‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:1‭-‬2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

[1] And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. [2] Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4:12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

[12] For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭3:16‭-‬17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

[16] All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. [17] God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

Be encouraged, for with God it is possible to stay pure, its a choice you will have to make everyday, when you are flowing in doing and staying pure and when the opposite is true. God wants the best for you and He will help you as you allow Him to, in every area of your life.
